Clinical management of nonhealing periradicular pathosis

چکیده
Nonhealing periradicular pathosis associated with endodontically treated teeth is customarily managed by revision (retreatment). Root-end resection is less often the first choice of treatment. Objectives. This prospective randomized study compared the outcome of retreatment and surgical intervention in root cana[ treated teeth with nonhealing periradicular pathosis. Study design. One such tooth from each of 38 patients was randomly allotted to retreatment or root-end resection and root-end filling. Treatment outcome after 1 year was evaluated and compared clinically and radiographically. Results. The success rate for surgery was higher than for conventional retreatment, but the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusions. For management of nonhealing periradicular pathosis associated with root canal treated teeth, surgical intervention should be considered as an alternative to retreatment. In cases with a similar prognosis for both modes of treatment, the choice should be governed by consideration of intrinsic and extrinsic factors. متن کاملDiabetes mellitus as a modulating factor of endodontic infections.
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease with serious health consequences. The association between diabetes and periodontal disease is well documented. However, the progression and healing of endodontic infections in diabetic patients has not been adequately studied. In this review, diabetes mellitus is explored as a potential modulating factor of endodontic pathosis. Recent data on the relations...
متن کاملNon-surgical Management of Endodontic Failure - an Observational Study
In the present study, possibility of non-surgical endodontic re-treatment for correction of symptomatic endodontic failure with and without periradicular pathosis was evaluated both clinically and radiologically. The main objective of this study was also to assess, verify and establish the non-surgical re-treatment method as primary approach to resolve endodontic failures irrespective of sex. A...
متن کاملConservative treatment of persistent periradicular lesions using aspiration and irrigation.
Aspirating the unknown contents of a bony cavity and saline irrigation of a body wound are both basic surgical techniques. These two techniques have been combined in treating persistent periradicular pathosis in two cases. The cases demonstrate significant bony healing of extensive periradicular defects after the use of the combined procedure. Both cases were nonresponsive to nonsurgical root c...
متن کاملIncidence of periradicular pathoses in endodontic treatment failures.
Biopsy reports from 150 periradicular tissue specimens obtained from teeth refractory to nonsurgical endodontic therapy were reviewed. The specimens were submitted by postdoctoral dental students in the Department of Endodontics, and the biopsy reports were prepared by oral pathologists at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. The study found that 59.3% of the periradicu...
